明治38年（1905）から大正10年（1921）にかけて行われた按針塚修理事業の一環として、対象10年2月15日に建てられました。JR横須賀駅前、国道16号沿いの汀橋近く、按針塚登り口の3ヶ所にあり、いずれも日本語と英語の表記で按針塚までの距離が記された角柱の道標です。画像は、ＪＲ横須賀駅付近の道標です。
